The Annual Coupe Icare

It’s hard to believe that so many years have passed. For the 17th year in a row, the Ozone Team will be hanging out at The Coupe Icare of St Hilaire. Look for the ALIXA stand on the show map, and as always, don’t count on our booth to be a traditional display of Ozone branding. Our friend, Mathieu de Quillacq, always manages to set us up with something original and non-commercial.
This year at the Coupe we will be announcing nine new products that are freshly launched or to be released in the coming weeks / months. Stop by to talk with us about the new gear, or stay tuned for our press release that will go out on our news and facebook in the next few days.

Cheers, from all the Ozone Team.

Cloudbase Foundation in Nepal

After the disastrous earthquake in Nepal last year, Karma Flights and The Cloudbase Foundation jumped to action and raised truly impactful amounts of support in both supplies and monetary donations. OZONE provided a donation of $10,000.00 to support the recovery efforts of the foundation. But, they are still on the ground and continue their efforts to help those that need assistance and to rebuild the communities that were devastated.

For the next 5 weeks, GoPro Inc. will be matching all donations to The Cloudbase Foundation. You can double your impact by donating at that link and help us give back to those that live in the places we love to fly. Watch the first video below to see how far the efforts have gone and what’s left to do.

In the second short film, a traveling artist brings some color and peace to the locals in the aftermath of the disastrous earthquake. The benefit of public art is tangible, but incalculable, and the work of Jeremy Collins in Nepal was well timed.

Again, GoPro Inc. will be matching all donations to the Cloudbase Foundation for the next five weeks – please consider supporting their mission, as we at OZONE have.

Cheers, from all the Team.

Ozone Welcomes Pal Takats to the Team

We are pleased to announce that our friend, Pal Takats, has joined the Ozone Team.

Pal is young, but is already a three-time World Champion and one of the most talented pilots in the history of paragliding with a long and impressive career in the sport. We look forward to flying with him for many years to come!

In the very near future we will be announcing a Trickster 2, which is the “easiest” competition acro wing that we have developed so far. Pal will be flying the Trickster 2 along with a full complement of Ozone wings, from the Fazer 2 to the Enzo 2 and everything in between. His PPG flying skills are also on the rise, and we are confident that he has a very bright future in all branches of our sport.

For more info on Pal, check out his website, and facebook page.

Coupe Icare News: 2013 Glider Announcements

We’ve just returned from a fun weekend at the Coupe Icare, where the Ozone team stayed busy inflating well over 6,000 balloons for our stand and the public. The balloons were all 100% biodegradable (they totally degrade in about 2 weeks of normal climate exposure) so if you were worried about that, fear not, we thought of it too 😉 Thanks to those of you who came to visit us at our stand, and we hope to meet many more of you there in the future!

While at the event, we presented our new wings for the rest of 2012 and for the 2013 season. A brief summary of them follows below. Please do not contact us for more info at this time, as we cannot say any more than this – thanks for your understanding!

Coming very soon:

Slalom – This new PPG wing is available for order now. It is our answer for pilots who want to carve the tightest turns at the highest speeds, on or off the race course.

The XXLite – This revolutionary single surface wing has been talked about for over a year, and is now finally going into production. It will be available for order later this week in the 16m and 19m sizes, weighing in at about 1.37kg and 1.2kg, respectively. More info will be available on the XXLite product page shortly.

The Trickster – We’ve released some photos and video of this exciting new acro wing recently and we’re very happy to announce that it will be available to order this week. This wing is for advanced acro pilots. The Trickster is a totally new design and initial reports have confirmed that it is vastly easier to execute all of the most advanced acro maneuvers than any wing we have designed to date, and will be available to order this week.

The R12 – Although Open Class wings are no longer the focus of most competitions, some of the world’s best pilots still prefer to fly a wing with the maximum performance possible. The R11 continues to be a popular option for record seekers and hardcore XC pilots, and for that reason we are now updating it with a few improvements to the handling and coordination of the wing. The R12 is not a replacement for the EnZo.

Coming for 2013:

The Buzz Z4 – Although the Z3 is extremely difficult to improve, and remains one of the most popular wings we’ve ever released, we have managed to retain all of its comfort and ease of use while massively upgrading the performance.

The Delta 2 – The rumours are true, and the Delta will be replaced very soon. We expect that the Delta 2 will represent just as much of a performance advance as the original Delta did in its class, with glide performance that equals many wings in the class above.

The Mantra M5 – This new wing will be a 2-line design with a shark nose profile. Although the comfort and ease of use will feel familiar to current M4 pilots, we are confident that the performance will rival the other wings in its class.

If all goes to plan, we hope to have the Z4 and the Delta 2 on sale before the end of the year and the M5 early in 2013. We will post more news on each of these wings as it becomes available, so stay tuned!

Cheers from all the Team.

Ozone at the Nissan Outdoor Games, Winter Edition

Ozone Team Pilots Felix Rodriguez, Antoine Boisselier, and Matt Gerdes were recently invited to be a part of the Nissan Outdoor Games on the ‘Medeo’z’ Team! This event is one of the most well organized and perfectly planned events that we have had the pleasure of attending, and we tip our hats to the organization team and the masterminds behind the event.

For more info on the comp format, click here, but to summarize: 7 teams consisting of a collection of athletes from the sports of paragliding, speed-riding, skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, and BASE jumping all come together with their own camera team and create a film in just 5 days. The pressure to plan a story, and then make it happen all within a defined geographic area (the Chamonix Valley) and all in just 5 days, was quite high, but all of the teams did great.

Check out Felix infinite tumbling his FLX in front of Mt Blanc, and Antoine and Matt speed riding the Col du Plan with La Bombe at the link below! Also, of course, the tandem in the video is an Ozone Magnum.
Guillaume Broust, who has directed all of the ‘Ozone Commercials’ was the director for the Medeo’z team, and the result of our week of work can be seen here.
A massive thanks to Guillaume Broust, the editing team, and all of the other incredible athletes on our team who did an amazing job in each of their sports to create the end result! Cheers from all the team, and enjoy the film – AND DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR IT!
