Famous paramotor couple and Ozone Team pilots, Alex and Marie Mateos won 2021 French (Classic) Championships 2021. Alex Mateos finished 1st in overall classification and this is his 10th World Champion Title in a row. Marie was 2nd and this is her 4th year on a podium.
Another member of the French National team – Boris Tysebaert – won the 1st place and the French Champion title in single trikes class (PL1). Nicolas Aubert was 6th in general classification. All pilots were flying the new Viper 5.
Alex and Marie report: “Receiving new wings only two weeks before the competition was a real challenge! But Viper 5 proves to be a perfect competition weapon! It’s features such as high efficiency, wide range of speed, great stability and precise handling are exactly what we need to win classic competition”
Alex says: “The Viper 5 is great fun in precision landing thanks to its amazing long flair! High top speed and stability really helped in all navigation tasks”
Weather conditions were difficult so the competition director had to run many shorts tasks during very few flyable days to get the Championships valid! Total 10 tasks were scored. This year event was visited by top pilots from Spain and Italy.
Slalom World Championships 2021 has been cancelled but in 2021 season there are a few events where top pilot from many countries have a chance to meet and compete. Bornos is one of the top locations where back in June took place The Spanish Open Championships. The event gathered over 20 pilots from Spain, Qatar, Poland, Holland, France and Greece.
Bartek repots: Bornos event gave us an opportunity to train and test new equipment. Unfortunately, top French pilots were absent, except Nicolas Aubert. The big surprised were pilots from Qatar who train a lot every year in Bornos to be able to fly at really high level. During one week of competition we had strong winds, which allowed to score only 5 tasks. I was very happy to finished on the 2nd position flying a completely new gear and beat my team mate Nicolas Aubert and Greek pilot Dimitris Koliakos who was 3rd.
I am looking forward to the next round in Jutrosin in Poland!
2021 British Open Paramotor Championships took place in Winglands Airfield, Lincolnshire on 8th – 10th July
13 Pilots competed in the championship class with a further 7 more competing in the discovery class designed as a stepping stone into competition.
Ric Womersley won the 2021 Champion title flying the Speedster 3
Ric reports: “The British Open Paramotor Championships follows an endurance format where tasks are briefed at the start of the competition and then we have flying windows throughout to complete as many of these tasks as possible.
We had a total of 14 hours of flying windows plus a limited fuel FAI triangle task, 4 spot landings and 4 skittle landings.
With 16 hours of competition flying over 3 days, this was definitely the most flying I have done in any one competition. Flying throughout the day in some very active skies the Speedster 3 performed impeccably. Its speed and stability allowed me to focus on completing as many tasks as possible, covering over 600 km during the competition. The Speedster’s precise handling and incredible glide meant I hit every spot and scored on all of the skittle landing tasks which also won me the precision trophy”
French Championships 2020 took place in early October in Blois. Despite pandemic restrictions and very windy weather pilots flew 8 tasks. Marie Mateos flying Tor 200 and Viper 4 16 was the leader during all competition. Her strongest part economy tasks. Alex flying the new Polini Thor 202 and Viper 4 16 won the last bawling landing tasks and overtook Marie by only 0.25 points!
Alex says: “Marie was the first but, on the last task, which was a bowling landing Marie pushed 3 and I pushed 5, which puts me in front of her at 0.25 points, the margin is very small! I am happy to win the French Champion title again but, at the same time, I am a little sad, because I think Marie deserves this first place more than me!”
Marie says: “I definitely need to practice precision landing in strong winds! I hope in the next French Championships 2021 I have a big chance to be the first!”
Czech Open Slalom Championships took place in Hustopece, near Brno, Czech Republic from 9 to 12 September. 17 Czech and foreign pilots were competing in class PF1, including 2 top Ozone top pilots Bartosz Nowicki (POL) and Lorenzo Mallegni (ITA) Pilots flew 20 slalom tasks and Lubos (flying Freeride 14) was a leader from the start, following closely by Bartek. In the finals, Lubos defended his first position winning two tasks but unfortunately, Bartosz lost his 3rd position to his polish teammate Marcin Bernat. All pilots show amazing performance in this very radical and technical competition. Congratulations from all Ozone Team!
Polish Open Paramotor Slalom Championships finished last Saturday after 6 days, 22 tasks flown and finals for best 4 pilots in each competition class.
There were 28 pilots competing in class PF1 (foot launch) and 8 in class PL1 (single trike) The event was the biggest slalom international competition this year with pilots visiting from France, Spain, Belgium, Netherland, Czech Republic, Greece and Hungary.
From the first day it was clear that nearly all best 6 – 7 pilots in the most challenging and prestige class PF1 were flying Ozone Freeride. Alex Mateos flying Freeride 14 took the lead from the day one and won 20 from 22 tasks. He was closely followed by his team mate Nicolas Aubert who was also flying the same wing. During most competition 3rd placed belonged to a Czech pilot Lubos Halama for whom this event was the first international competition flying Ozone Freeride.
Many fellow competition pilots were truly impressed by the performance of Marie Mateos – the best World female pilot and the only girl competing in slalom. She finished on 6th position overall leaving many really good and experience pilots far behind.
Young Italian pilot flying Freeride 15 – Lorenzo Mallegni – showed his high skills and despite some mistakes and one major collapse, he still managed to finished 5th. He is undoubtedly a growing talent with a huge potential to fight for podium in next events.
The best Polish pilot in the National Team and the winner of 2020 Polish Champion title is Bartosz Nowicki flying Freeride 15. Bartosz defended the title from the last year. This young and skillful pilot showed again that he is still unbeatable.
In class PL1 another polish pilot – Szymon Winkler – flying Ozone Freeride won bronze medal. This young brilliant pilot has a bit less experience than his team mates Wojtek and Pawel but he consistently held 3rd position through all competition showing huge potential for future.

Big Congratulations to the Ozone Team for taking the podium of Spanish Slalom Open Championships which took place last few days in Bornos, Spain. This was one of the biggest slalom competitions of the season with 49 pilots competing from 9 different countries with 7 tasks flown.
Alex Mateos won flying the Freeride 14 followed by Nicolas Auberts, also flying the Freeride 14 in 2nd place overall. Alex says: “Everything went well, the training of this year paid off. I wish we could have flown more tasks but the results are there, so I’m very happy!” The big surprise came from new Ozone Team pilot Bartek Nowicki who finished 3rd overall. After flying Dudek for many years, polish pilot Bartek decided to change to the Ozone Freeride this season. It is a completely different wing to fly, requiring a different technique and style and despite a minimum of training he managed to win the Polish Slalom Championships earlier this year. Marie Mateos – the only girl amongst the top level pilots displayed her class once again, leaving behind many pilots who can only dream of getting to her level! Maries says: “This is the first time for me that I am so close to the podium in slalom competition. I am very happy with this result, especially with 7 valid tasks where I finished 4 times in the 3rd position. Nevertheless, I think with more training I can get the podium next time”. Go for it Marie!
Once again, the Coupe Icare has come and gone, with all of the madness and excitement that one would expect from the world’s largest paragliding festival.
As every year Alixa/Ozone stand was not a traditional display of Ozone branding. Our friend, Mathieu de Quillacq, always manages to set us up with something original and non-commercial.
This year Ozone Power revealed the latest new products: Kona 2 based on the Buzz Z6 and EN B universal paragliding and paramotor wing.
Ozone Team pilots, Alex Mateos and Nicolas Aubert participated in the Parabatix Sky Race (slalom / precision competition), which took place on plateau of St Hilaire and the landing of Lumbin during three days of the event. Both of them flew Freeride 14 and ended up on the podium winning the overall final run. Congrats to all of the pilots and thank you for a great show!
Also, on Saturday afternoon the crowds enjoyed a PPG show put on by Alex and Marie while Raffaele Benetti were presenting his new project – electric paramotor for paragliders.

2019 French Paramotor Championships were held in ULM Airfield Couhe-Verac from 29 June till 6th July. There were total 35 pilots competing in class PF1 (solo foot launch), 9 light single trikes and 4 double trikes. PF1 pilots flew total 13 tasks and trikes 11 tasks
Alex and Marie Mateos won the competition taking 1st (Alex) and 2nd (Marie) place. Both of them were flying with Viper 4 16.
Alex Mateos reports: “First of all, I am very happy with the performance of my equipment. Despite of tough condition and hot weather my engine was working really well. I am very impressed by speed and stability of my Viper 4 sometimes we were flying in a really strong wind, reaching speed up to 100 km/h! I started this competition a bit distracted, because I lost podium in French Championships in 2011 on the same airfield, it was the moment, when I first met Marie and fall in love” .
Marie says: “I am very happy with my final results. I think I started this competition really focused not to make any mistake, even small, possibly demanding too much of myself. But during competition, I manage to relax a little bit and really enjoy 2nd part of the competition when I won pure eco task. I won 3 tasks.”

Nicolas Aubert just missed the podium, finished 4th in PF1 flying Viper 4 18.

UK pilot Alex Huxham won Icarus X Trophy flying his new Roadster 3 24. He has been flying only over 10 months being trained by SkySchool UK. “I have managed to clock well over 130 flights in that time” – he says. The race took place from 21st to 22nd June. The route was 240 miles (386 km) long, it was a triangle starting and finishing in Somerset, passing through Devon where he stayed overnight, across Dorset and Wiltshire. There were 27 pilots competing.
Here is how describes his first big and successful cross country adventure: “I wanted to combine my passion for flying and the need due to getting older to complete something out of my comfort zone and challenging. I was in the Race category, unsupported the entire time. I had to walk to get fuel with my Paramotor, a long gruelling walk, climbing over fences and barriers to get there and back. Took off at 4:36 pm, landed 8:47 pm to camp overnight, left again at 5:11am, landed at 8:18 am before landing at the finish line at 9:08 am. My equipment consisted of my Parajet Maverick paramotor with extra large fuel tank and my 24 m Roadster 3. I managed an average fuel consumption of 4.5 liter per hour fully trimmed out and speedbar for the duration of the flying.
A positive attitude, the right equipment and sheer determination. I got up early, I left as soon as I could, and when I landed, I ran around and got setup again. My Roadster 3 launches impeccably allowing me to get in the air fast with all the extra weight and make the whole experience so much easier. I never once or for a second doubted its ability to perform and remain stable allowing me to forget about the wing while flying and concentrate on hydration, food, course and altitude adjustments. The Roadster 3 is a versatile wing, trims in and neutral and it performs very responsively, trims out and the speed and stability this wing provides is unreal. My average speed was 39 m/h (62 km/h) over the course, with a sustained top speed of 47 m/h – 76 km/h”
