A debate over whether to use a 3 or 4 line arrangement was at the forefront of the early development process. After months of work and comparisons we have reached our goal, which is a well balanced compromise between the two initial choices.
The solution to gaining the advantages of both a 3 line system (less drag) and from the 4 line system (less chordwise deformation = nicer feel) was to create a pyramidal junction of the C and D lines. This resulted in a 30m line reduction, which means a significant improvement in glide performance with no loss of safety or handling.
A combination of line material was chosen for a balance between durability and performance. Unsheathed uppers and mids treated with a UV coating save drag, while sheathed riser lines make the lineset more durable and the wing easy to launch and ground-handle in any terrain at any site.
We have used the same profile as the M2, with a similar thickness. The main effect is a glider that is constantly searching ahead, resulting in a better headwind glide and more pitch stability. The sensation is that the Addict 2 slices forward in turbulent air. Not only the glide was improved by a significant amount, but also the climb.
We have reduced the cell number by one center cell. Less distance between the line cascade in the center helps to improve the in-flight comfort of the wing.
The sail tension has been recalculated to meet the need for increased comfort and to reduce the intensity and sharpness of the feedback through the risers. The sail tension is actually based on developments in the M2 and the MantraR07 research, which have proved to be the most comfortable wings in their respective categories.
The arc of the wing has been slightly modified for less roll and higher glide performance.
The AR has remained the same: We have achieved a true improvement in performance without interfering with the overall safety of the wing. The idea was not to push it to an extreme that would look great on paper but not be truly usable for LTF 2 pilots. The Addict2 is another example of the True Performance philosophy that drives all of our designs.
The risers have the same high quality pulleys with smooth ball-bearings as the M3. We can virtually guarantee that the Addict 2 has the smoothest speed system that you have ever used.
