Florian and his mates have just returned from an amazing adventure to cross Greenland by kites and foot power if needed! The 4 friends made the crossing in 33 days and from his report it sounds like they had an amazing time and had to deal with a wide variety of conditions.
Keep an eye open for their full story to appear in kite mags soon…… it`s so cool to see more and more people taking the time out to achieve something so adventurous with kites…nice one guys!
Read on for Florians short report:
“Matt, the kites were really great. Probably without them, we didn`t manage the crossing. I think we have had the perfect size of the kites and glad we took your advice on the 7m and 12m frenzy04.
We arrived from the ice cap in Germany the 20th of July 04. This year, as we know, four groups tried the crossing and just two (including us) made it.
For the 598 km, we needed 33 days.
On 5 Days we could use the Kites; it was great, like flying over the snow. All in all we surfed approx. 160 km, the best on one day was 68 km. Hubert
Said: “it`s like surfing on the fucking Atlantic, with the only difference it`s frozen”!
The maximum wind we had on the trip was 16 m/s, we didn`t kite at this time. The strongest we kited was up to 10 m/s.
The temperature was very funny. From -16° Celsius to + 8° Celsius during the day. All things considered we had 5 days with storms and rain, staying in the tents.
It was an absolutely phat and wicked trip, I enjoyed it a lot, thanks for such great kites, Florian”
