Extremesouth Expedition 2006/07

“Hey folks! I`m Toby and with two other medical students I am going to walk and kite across the Antarctic continent between November and January 2006/07.

We will be retracing some of Capt. Scott`s route, walking from 85° at the Beardmore Glacier to the South Pole, and then continue across the continent to Hercules Inlet on the other coast using kite traction where possible. The expedition will be unguided and without resupply.

If successful it will be one of the longest polar journeys in history and we will raise £220,000 for diabetes charities. In addition I will become the youngest Briton to the South Pole, Rob the team leader will be the first Diabetic to reach the pole without resupply, and we will be the first team of medical students to reach the Pole.

As part of the expedition we will be undertaking medical research and testing, to its limits, a possible future cure for diabetes.

We will be using Ozone Access and Yakuza kites and on a good day we can hope to cover up to 100 miles pulling sleds weighing 100kg; far more than we would do walking!
