Snowkite Masters 2013 crowned French & World Champions in Snowkiting
Seven days of awesome competition action at the Col du Lautaret (Serre Chevalier) came to an end. The winner of the french & world championship in ski and snowboard are crowned, with 72 riders from 10 nations participating at the 2013 Snowkitemasters.
The wind was strong enough on the last two days to run the last heats of the single and to continue the double elimination until its end. During the first two days, we had good conditions to complete the French Race and to continue afterwards with Freestyle with sunny weather and winds up to 20 knots. This allowed the riders to show how far the riding has come over the last decade.
In the single elimination, Laurent Sublet (France) in Ski and Marek Zach (Czech Rep) in Snowboard made their way to the top of the double elimination as well as Kari Schibevaag (Norway) in Ski and Snowboard, followed by Muriel Vandenbempt in Ski and Estelle Lambelet in Snowboard, both from France.
The conditions proved to be almost perfect for the double elimination day with winds up to 20 knots and a cloudy sky. All riders were on top level. The three judges from Netherlands, Belge and France were impressed by the variety of technical moves of the competitors: Big air styles (old-school), awesome grabs, double handle passes, KGB’s, frontslide, backslide and the most impressive move by russian rider Artem Garaschchenko a front mobe 2 blind by going up the mountain without any support of a kicker! What an amazing show for the judges and spectators!
In the French Championship Freestyle, Laurent Sublet in Ski, Guillaume Chastagnol in Snowbard, Muriel Vandenbempt (Ski) and Estelle Lambelet (Snowboard) were crowned as 2013 French Champions in their disciplines.
The final heat of the World Championship in Ski was made between L. Sublet and Russian star Anton Uzhegov with a final victory of A. Uzhegov. In the womens fleet, Kari Schibevaag (Ozone) from Norway earned again twice the World Champion title 2013 in Snowboard and Ski.
But the most spectacular final was carried out by Marek Zach (Ozone) and local rider Guillaume Chastagnol - fighting for the World Championship title in Snowboard. Both of the riders put on a spectacular show with a big variety of tricks, which was possible because of the perfect funpark done by PistenBully.
Finally at the end of the heat, Marek Zach won over Guillaume Chastagnol with a small advance of more technical moves.
Congratulations to all riders for that memorable event and thanks to all helping hands, partners and benevole to support the Snowkitemasters 2013.
