Dom Zimmermann - Winter Season Kicking Off

Hi everyone,

finally the winter season kicks off with tons of snow around the Alps. Some proper weather systems have been passing through dumping snow all over even down to 300 msl. Already now in December we are able to go to spots that we have rarely used the last 2 or 3 seasons. Snow covered fields, little hills etc are now becoming the perfect snowkite playground sometimes just in your backyard!

I’m just back from a 3 day trip to the Alps in Switzerland testing the new Snowkites in their element… what can I say?? Sometimes everything just fits perfectly together as on the first day we had on San Bernadinopass. Well almost perfect cause we had to skin up in knee deep powder which took 3 times longer but half way up I found just enough space in the bushes to launch my 13m Frenzy and off I was with my personal sky lift…

The sky cleared later on in the day and the higher we got the more snow there was. I just realized again that this is the very best sport you can do. If you guys think water is unbeatable than try it frozen in the mountains!!! It’s just killer! The avalanche risk was too high to climb up any mountains but the area we rode had a nice steady uphill and reached up to 2100m easily.

The next day was without any wind so me moved to Berninapass to be ready for the next days. There wasn’t that much snow at the Pass but still fresh powder and enough to ride everywhere. When the wind kicked in around 11am I went out on the 13m Frenzy again to check out the Spot on the east side of the road. The wind was super gusty and I remembered those conditions from some years ago but unlike then I could really feel the improved stability of the Frenzy. At some points I was awaiting a collapse but it just didn’t come. It kept stable and started flying again as soon as the next gust hits in. A real smooth pulling kite - rock stable and direct bar feeling.

I had a quick go on the 10m Summit also and that was just a bee through the air. So fast in speed and handling. It’s always a pleasure to fly a smaller kite after you have ridden a big one but there was a huge difference between those 3sqm!!!

Looking out the window it’s snowing again which makes me excited for the next session. Looks like a big snowkite season is waiting for us - let’s hit it!

See you up there!
Cheers
Dom
