…and more than 24 km in the bottom of the valley.
Hi everyone,
In the french alps near Serre Chevalier - Briançon the guys are enjoying perfect conditions for snowkite skitouring, freeriding, backcountry… read on for Johan’s report about their last week trip:
“After 35 minutes of ski touring, we reached the plateau. The wind allowed us to climb the southwest face though the wind was blowing strongly from the north in the Serre Chevalier valley. We needed around 1 hour to reach the first summit because the snow was so good and we had to enjoy the perfect powder in all the different gullies.
Then, with Guillaume, we decided to start the traverse towards pic Lombard a few kilometres further. After a few minutes we packed the kite and had a freeride down to the village just in front of the pic.The wind was a bit strange on the first part, I was having doubts about the possibility to go on the top since it was 3:30 PM which is a bit late but a gust propelled us to the top of the pic… 900m higher!! We then had a quick freeride down to the village (at the bottom it was 4:15 PM). But the way back was long (12Km).
After a few miles walking on the nordic slopes, our kite helped us to finish the way back faster… where we met our friends who had been playing all the day long graviting around the summit like free electrons!!!
This day was perfect and we managed a huge cruise in the mountains, climbing up 2 different summits 4 or 5 kilometres apart. But take care you are in the mountains!”
