Hi everyone,
A quick update about our team Eric and Sarah and Curtis.
>>It was 3h00 in the morning. We stopped for a quick break to eat and drink. The weather: another overcast and gloomy day. The ice fog was so thick, we were basically kite-skiing through a low lying cloud. Our eyes were sore from looking into an endless expanse of whiteness.
The winds were light. We launched our biggest kites and continued on. We had to stay close in order not to lose sight of each other. Even our kites on 45 meter lines were disappearing into the thick fog.
Our plan was to stay close together. We all kept an eye on each other, stopping or slowing down if someone was behind. Of course we all had some sort of communication system in case we did get separated; an Iridium phone, flares and an emergency beacon. And Curtis has enough salami in his pulk to live for at least a couple of weeks.
But there were limits. The day before was too stormy for us to travel. So we waited until the weather improved and headed out at 11pm, kite-skiing through the night till noon the next day.
The fog eventually cleared, and the sun came out. We are now past the arctic circle. Summer solstice was yesterday, meaning we will never see the sun set again on this trip. It will be 24 hours of sun from here on!
