Regis & Wareck have once again pulled together the kick off event for the snowkite season in Europe. There’s always the danger when organizing an early season event that the snow won’t play ball so hats of to them both as they have been feeling the pressure praying for snow to fall in time for the weeks event.
Thankfully there is just enough snow on the ground at the Lautaret and yesterday proved once again just how committed the top snowkiters are to the sport. The 20m steel rail that launches the riders into orbit onto hard packed snow/ground!!! It would be enough to make the toughest nut crack but the SKM invitational had all the riders giving it their all yesterday.
Ozone ride Sigve Botnen was the 1st to hurt himself on this monumental rail, remember there’s no sides to this rail so its fully committing and by the end of the rail the riders are 6m high, unhooked with just the hard packed icy ground below them. Now on water that would be no problem so take a minute to give these guys some deserved respect!! They were hitting the rail unhooked at warp speed…sliding the entire length and boosting kite loops and all sorts of madness off the end!!! Ag our young skier from Norway is also at the event, both of them just returned from Vietnam testing the new water kite range for 2007
Chasta is back on his home turf after a superb summer in Tahiti and is happier than ever to be back to the snow. Chasta’s talented wife Titaua is also back from Tahiti for a few weeks, a big change from the heat and waves of French Polynesia, check out the kitesurf page on this site to see the video they knocked up for us. Chasta has some exciting projects planned this winter with full support from his sponsor RedBull, more news on these record breaking attempts in the near future
We wish the whole SKM crew a superb week, its cold with clear blue skies so the images will be spectacular even with the lack of snow
Cheers
Matt & everyone at Ozone
