Teams from over Europe gathered in ‘Benone’(N.Ireland) for the 2005 European class 8 baggy championships.
The location is a North facing beach very close to the boarder with the Irish republic. The scenery is superb and the organisation is equally good.
This year the size of the fleet was smaller than usual but this did not detract from the competition and there was a great feeling of comradeship through out the event.
Onshore wind was only enjoyed for the first days racing which saw fast reaching courses, the rest of the time the wind was offshore and quite turbulent making it very challenging for all the pilots. The beach itself was very smooth and firm with soft sand to the rear of the beach near the sand dunes which made choosing the right wheel setup crucial for the prevailing conditions. The racing was very competitive with everything to play for right down to the last race.
In the end it was Peter Swann(UK) who prevailed and became this years Champion followed extremely closely by Graham Steel(UK) who had to settle for 2nd place and Simon Bosworth(UK) who placed third overall. Karen Mansfield(UK) also made it as women’s champion.
Congratulations to all..!
