South to North Greenland crossing using Ozone kites

In 2008 a team of three Dutchmen, Eric Schlameisen, Philip de Roo and Joep Bovens will attempt to cross Greenland from South to North over a distance of more than 2300km. This crossing will take place under the name ‘Notice Expedition’. In 2007 the Notice team successfully completed an East to West Greenland crossing in 26 days, partly using kites. Winds were not favourable during that expedition but on this next expediton the team has to rely almost completely on windpower.

Notice Expedition is a two year project that puts a focus on the International Polar Years 2007 and 2008 and will show that it is possible to rely solely on climate neutral energy sources such as Biofuel, solar energy and of course the wind… Ozone will be the engine that will support the team to reach their goal.

The team has chosen the Frenzy FX for this trip. Ozone’s reliabillity and quality combined with the new improved Megatron Chickenloop and bar, as well as the flying characteristics of the Frenzy made it an easy choice. “The first time flying the Frenzy felt like stepping on a bike after 10 years… You never lose the feeling”.

Last weekend the kites were put to the test at the Wasserkuppe in Germany, the flying and kiting birthground. Even in strong winds up to 9bft the 7m2 FrenzyFX performed excellent.
