10월에 스페인에서 12번째에서 16번째까지 열린  첫 PXP Paramotor Speed Race에서 유럽전역에서 모든 파일럿들이 스피드 자체를 즐기기 위해 모였습니다. 하지만 규칙은 엄격했습니다. :  PPG 전문가로서 파일럿들은 일반적으로 공인된 중량을 초과하여 비행하는데 이 대회에 참가한 파일럿에게는 단지 EN이 공인한 Paramotor wing으로 공인된 무게 범위내에서만 비행을 하게한 점이 파일럿에게 흥미로웠습니다.

우리는  Mathieu Rouanet에 의해 비행된 Speedster 26이 종합 우승을 차지하게 되었음을 발표하게 되어 매우 기쁩니다. 종합 이등은 Viper2 28을 조종한 Benito Susa이 차지하였습니다. 모든 메이저 PPG브랜드가 이 대회에 참가하였습니다. 이 대회의 웹사이트는 결과가 아직 발표되지 않았지만 곧 보여질 것입니다.but can be seen here.

The Speedster manual is slightly different from the other manuals in our PPG range because the Speedster is a new and different wing. Once again Eric packed up his bags and Ozone kites and headed off on another expedition to Greenland.  This year the goal was to guide his client Sebastian Copeland on an impressive 2,300km South to North crossing of Greenland.

The team of two left on May 14th, from the south tip of Greenland near the small community of Narsarsuaq.   With 45 days of food in their pulks, their first challenge was to ski up through the crevassed area to a location were they could kite.  They got through safely and now the waiting game for winds begins!

Update 2: The storm that never ended  

The southern tip of Greenland is notorious for bad weather, storms, and uncooperative winds, if any at all.  It is by far the hardest and most frustrating part of the expedition that Eric and Sebastian will encounter.  Their strategy: get of the southern tip as quickly as possible!

Once ascending the glacier Eric and Sebastian kept their fingers crossed for good winds. Day 7 was their first day of kite-skiing, they launched their kites and headed North.  The winds were good, allowing them cover a distance of 109km.

However their fortunes changed when a big storm rolled in.  The days rolled by, the storm just getting worse.  Storm bound in their 4 by 7 foot Hilleberg tent, they were slowly sliding behind schedule.  On the 4th day of the storm, it had ceased enough to give them hope of traveling, but by the time they had dug out the tent, the storm picked back up in full force.

Six days and one broken tent pole later, the storm finally ended!

Update 3: Back on the road:

The brutal six-day storm finally ceased. Eric and Sebastian dug themselves out of the snow, and pack up their gear.  Eager to make miles, they have been kite-skiing long hours, some days covering more than 200km.   Which has allowed them to crossed the Arctic Circle, hopefully leaving the bad winds and storms behind them.

Update 4: New World Record!!!  595km covered in 24hrs!!!

The winds were blowing across the ice cap, Eric and Sebastian packed up their tent and gear and headed out for another day of kite skiing.   The conditions were perfect, good snow and decent moderate winds.   Eric took out his fastest kite:  14m Yakuza!  After the first hour and a half they had almost covered 100km!  If the conditions kept up they had a good shot at beating the record for the most distance traveled in 24hours, which stood at an impressive 518km.

“Let’s go for it”, said Eric.  Doing 2 hours kite sessions, with 15 minute breaks to eat and drink, they rocked through the night.  As soon as the sun came up, the snow got soft and the winds light.  They trucked on through the day, and sure enough the winds picked back up forcing them to switch down to small kites: Eric to his 12m Manta, and Sebastian to his 10m Manta.

Sometime in their 17th hour they cracked the existing record.  Exhausted they continued on.  By 9:15, 24 hours had passed.  Tired, sore and sleep deprived they landed their kites.  Once the tent was up, they turned on their GPS.  They had just set a new world record for the most distance kite skied in 24hrs, an impressive 595 km!!!!
