A Sneak Peak at the Ozone Team X-Alps Gear

We’ve just shipped out equipment for the 12 Ozone Pilots in the 2013 X-Alps. Here’s a sneak peak at what they’ll be flying:

The LM5

The new LM5 is the product of an intense collaboration between the R&D Team and Chrigel Maurer. It was developed specifically for the extreme challenges of the X-Alps race, and more X-Alps competitors will be flying it (12) than any other wing. Weighing in at a mere 3.35kg in the MS size, the LM5 is an ultralite high-tech performance wing designed to excel in the most difficult alpine conditions. The R&D Team describes it as the “Ultimate 3-Liner”, due to its unparalleled ratio of efficiency to comfort in active air. Equipped with the Ozone SharkNose leading edge and a some complex but lightweight internal construction, the LM5 performs equally well in deep-brakes for backcountry valley or top-landings as it does on full speed in active air.

The OZIUM

We have also released a new harness for the X-Alps Team Pilots, designed in cooperation with Eric Lotscher. The X-Alps Team version of the OZIUM weighs in at just 1.8kg (with back protection, 1.5kg without), and is a seatboard-less pod with a carbon-fiber footplate and a rear-mounted reserve compartment. The OZIUM will be released to the public after the X-Alps race and will feature slightly more adjustment capabilities and EN certification.

Fran Reina Wins Again

Young Spanish phenom, Fran Reina, stood at the top of the podium at the recent Piedrahita National League comp. His brother, Jose Manuel, was just behind him in 2nd overall. Fran reported excellent race conditions with a 150km, 100km, and a 60km task.

Ozone Pilots Sweep 2013 Austrian Nationals

Ozone Team Pilot, Heli Eichholzer, is the new Austrian National Champion for 2013. And he shared the podium with 100% Ozone pilots.

After 3 valid tasks, only two little points separated Heli from Alex Schalber, and they were followed by yet another EnZo pilot, Rudi Niedermühlbichler. Stephan Gruber held a solid lead with his Enzo after the first two tasks, but was passed on the third and ended up in 4th overall.

Mathieu Abrard Explores the Karakoram

There is something about the biggest mountains on earth that attracts Ozone pilots. Ozone has a long history with the Himalaya, and especially with the Karakoram, a range which contains the world’s highest concentration of 8000m peaks. Mathieu Abrard is there currently, flying his M4 deep into the heart of Pakistan’s Karakoram. He writes of his adventure:

“I am now in Pakistan with my M4 and I love it! I fly the small size, over the top [of the weight range] with the o2 equipment and all of my bivouac staff and it’s still flying well, which is great Here are some photos which I hope you like. They were all taken above 6000m in the K2 region, this is an amazing place with 3 summits over 8000m (K2, Gasherbrum, and Leila) and so many glaciers… I still have 2 more weeks, and I will try to go for a 200km and maybe push the Mantra at 7000m. I send you small size pictures because of my connection. All the best from Pakistan!!”

Fran Reina Wins Spanish National / FIA Festival El Yelmo

Ozone EnZo Pilots Sweep Brazilian Nationals

Martin Muller Wins “Bornes to Fly” Competition

The 2013 Bornes to Fly (”Bornes” means Kilometers, in French) competition has come to a close in the Annecy region of France, and Martin Muller of Switzerland has taken top honors. Martin is an Ozone Team pilot and will be competing in the X-Alps event in July, and he is one of the most experienced and favored pilots in the X-Alps event.

This event was just a normal weekend out for Martin, who has been training hard all year for the X-Alps race. For more info, check out the B2F site here.

오존 X-Alps 팀 파일럿인 Stephan haase는 오스트리아 Soeden 근처의 Oetztal에서 있는 신종 멀티 스포츠 릴레이 경주에 참가했습니다. 경주를 위한 Uvex 정상에는 스키, 산악 자전거, 산악 달리기, 암벽등반, 싸이클, 산악 스키, 패러글라이딩, 카약의 8개의 각각 다른 분야의 세계 정상급의 운동선수들 총 24명이 참가했습니다. 경기의 마지막인 래프팅 경주에서는 모든 선수들이 팀으로서 노를 저었습니다.

Stephan Haase는 어려운 시작 조건에서 Swift2로 비행하였고, 다음 릴레이 순서인 카약팀에게 첫 번째로 바톤을 넘겨준 패러글라이더였습니다.

첫 번째로는, 지금 개발의 최종 단계에 있는 M5 3 라이져 입니다.

많은 파일럿들은 지금 질문을 할 것입니다. “어떤 M5가 나에게 적합할까?”

대부분의 M4 파일럿들은 3라인을 적합할 것이라고 생각합니다만, 그들이 필요한게 무엇이냐에 따라 달라질 것이라 생각합니다. 좀 더 의욕적인 파일럿들은 2라인을 선택하시면 될 것으로 생각됩니다.

이륙에서 3라인은 현저히 조종하기에 더 쉽고, 대체로 더 관대한 글라이더입니다. 3라인의 편안함과 사용의 쉬움은 많은 파일럿을 위해 가장 높은 “진정한 성능”을 양보할 것입니다. 2라인은 정확한 뒷라이저 컨트롤 시스템으로 인해 성능의 우위와 높은 스피드에서 더 높은 효율을 제공합니다. 다시말하면 2라인은 극심한 기상에서 더 적극적이고 정확한 조종을 요구합니다.

우리는 M5가 만들어지는 상황을 여기에 계속 게시할 것입니다. 제발 R&D 팀이 일할 수 있게 우리에게 보내는 이메일을 삼가 주시길 바랍니다. 우리에게는 정말 이 프로젝트에 전념할 수 있는 시간이 필요합니다. 좋지 않은 남 프랑스의 날씨 때문에 우리의 제작이 기대보다 점점 더 늦어지고 있습니다. 하지만 모든 결과가 만족스럽기 때문에 기다림에 대한 보상을 충분히 받으실 수 있으리라 생각합니다.
