The school…

The Ozone Team has been to Ghana twice to participate in the annual Ghana Paragliding Festival. We’ve been all over the world, and the West African Republic of Ghana has some terrific flying in an immensely varied and extraordinarily beautiful landscape. The people are welcoming, hospitable, and kind. They are also, for the most part, quite poor. You do see the occasional luxury car driving around, but unfortunately these all too often belong to the corrupt owners of ‘Aid Organizations’, which made us think twice about donating funds to a random organization.

In April of 2007, we met Sabrina Krewin of the Peace Corps at the Ghana Paragliding Festival. Ms. Krewin told us about a project that she was spearheading, which would provide a much needed learning space at the Savelugu School for the Deaf, where she was working. Students at the school were short on space, and had received a donation of computer supplies but had no secure place to set them up or use them.

By donating to Sabrina’s project, we were able to ensure that the money we donated went entirely where it was needed, to people who truly needed it. Thanks to Ms. Krewin and the many other donors for this project, the building is now under construction and is on track to be completed by the end of 2007.
