Ozone pilots took 8 of the top 10 places, and 15 out of the top 20 places, and the overall first place position. We’d like to send a big thank you and congratulations to all of the pilots who trusted us enough to order the EnZo sight unseen, and fly it in such a high level comp at such short notice.

Peter Neuenschwander and Dusan Oroz were the two EnZo pilots on the podium, with Ozone Designer Luc Armant just behind them in 4th place, and Josh “Programmed for Gold” Cohn in 5th. The top of the ranking was heavily Ozone, click here for full results.

Ozone Team Pilot, Nick Greece, said, “The Enzo’s racing heritage enabled many Ozone pilots to continue realizing their goals by consistently allowing us to glide with the highest level of performance against the best pilots in the world. Ozone has created, and maintained, another incredible competitive advantage. I think it’s going to be another year of Ozone on top.”

We would also like to make special mention of Julian Andres Carreno Colonia, who was the highest placed “normal” EN D pilot, flying a Mantra M4 well ahead of many “high-end” EN D Competition wings. Julian is a young, up-and-coming pilot from Colombia who we’re sure we’ll see more of in the future. Luc Armant reported that Julian was often with the lead gaggle and closed the performance gap through smart decision making.

Thanks again to all of you for supporting us for another season at the top, we look forward to seeing more smiling Ozone pilots on podiums during the rest of this season.

The EnZo arrived in Raul Penso’s hands just hours before a comp, and he got to know and love it well, immediately. Raul reports:

“It was the 28th of December, and I was driving to my job (I had to work all of December), I decided to email Orlando (Venezuelan Ozone Distributor) to see if by any chance the EnZo was on the way, and he answered “Ahh yeah I received the tracking number” and I said “What?? nobody tell me!!!” So I began to track it, every hour for 4 days, until it arrived late the night just before the Andes Open  It’s an awesome glider, I was surrounded by R10.2 and R11s, but no problem… my EnZo led the way, but just before goal a bad decision put me into ESS just 30m short of the line!

The second task was the same trick, I was ahead with Juan Carlos and Carlos Cordido, again Carlos and I took a decision to goal but we landed 200m short, 15 minutes later Juan soared over us and made goal…

For the 3rd task, I tried to focus and breathe and just before the start point (it was 6km from takeoff), a good risk decision put me alone at the start of the task and then I was alone all the way to goal, finishing 12 min in front of Carlo (2nd). Anyway, it was a good start with the EnZo here in Venezuela and the EnZo’s first podium”

We believe we have a great combination of speed, precision, and performance. The Fazer has an excellent glide range - it will go steep when you want it, and it glides well when you need it to. Although the glide range can be adjusted extensively using only the brakes, the Fazer also features a wide trim range which works smoothly on its 3-riser system.

The Fazer is rock-solid in the air, and has absolutely zero “wobble” or “accordion” movement. This stability makes for an extremely precise, smooth, and confidence-inspiring ride for pilots who engage in Proximity Flying, and Speed Riding.  We worked very hard to eliminate all parasitic sail movement and the highly precise handling of the Fazer combined with its compact and stable feel allows you to fly the best line possible, with confidence.

We know that you have high expectations, and we do too, so we did everything possible to create a profile that not only delivers the precision described above, but also has a long brake travel and good slow speed flight with an obvious stall point that is easy to feel. And when it comes time to land, we are sure that the Fazer’s swoop and recovery arc will satisfy even the most demanding pilots.

Although the Fazer is still in Prototype phase, the Finishing touches are being made as we write this and by February we hope to have three sizes in production. The future is impossible to predict, but Sergio may go down in history as one of the last Open Class National Champions. With the end of Open Class in most of the world, the majority of National Championships and all PWC events in 2012 will be battled out with serial wings. the Ozone Enzo is almost ready to be released into the wild for its first season of competition and although many pilots will miss the R11, we look forward to hearing your feedback on our new race machine.

We’d like to send a heartfelt congratulations to the overall winner, our good friend Nico Bernhard, who has made an impressive comeback after not having competed in the National Champs for 5 years.

Second place overall went to Honorin Hamard, who at 20 years old is one of the youngest pilots to stand on a national podium. Congrats, and we think that we’ll see more of him in the years to come.
