Amateur repairs can do more harm than good. Always let a a qualified professional carry out major glider repairs.

Cloth

If the rip is small, you can fix it yourself. You’ll find all the materials in the repair kit supplied with Ozone gliders you need. On the Gelvenor fabric, because of the silicon coating, the sticky ripstop will not stick very well. Small holes can be fixed using 2 pieces of sticky on each side of the cloth (they stick to each other through the hole). The white sticky cloth that we provide is actually see-through and so is suitable for all colours. Older gliders that have lost some of the silicon coating can be stuck with sticky cloth more easily. The other option you will have is to use a very thin coat of silicone glue, available from DIY shops, to stick a piece of Gelvenor cloth over the tear. Stitching is the only solution when the above does not work or the repair is too big.

This is the rip in the Galvenor that we need to repair.   Cut a patch making sure that there is plenty of overlap around the tear.

Round the corners of the patch to spread the tension.   Apply a thin even layer of silicone glue to the patch, making sure no areas are missed.

Roll the patch onto the torn area keeping the cloth under tension.   Smooth down the patch making sure you get rid of any air bubbles. Once you are happy remove any excess glue and leave to dry before packing.

The Porcher Marine fabric can simply be mended with the sticky rip stop provided or with spinnaker tape. When cutting out the patch remember to allow ample overlap around the tear and round the corners of the patch.

Round the corners of the patch to spread the tension.   Carefully roll the patch onto the tear whilst holding the material either side taught.

Keep easing off the backing paper till the patch is completely stuck down, make sure there are no air bubbles.   The finished repair. On a large tear like this you should stick a repair patch on both sides.

Lines

Any line that is damaged should be replaced by a qualified professional. It is important that the replacement line is made from the same material, has got the same strength and is the same length. You can check its length against its counterpart on the other side of the wing, to make sure that it is symmetrical. Once the line has been replaced, inflate and check the glider before flying.
