The adventure in New-Zealand come on for the Ozone snowkiters. And after long runny an cloudy endless days, here is the fresh snow and sunshine.
The team has got two nice sessions. First was in Nevis, at least one hour far from Queenstown. Amanda was the organizer for this session. She arranged the appointment with the 4x4 trucks and it was a 15 km track in the mountains before arriving to the snow. There, the 8 kiters were still far from the spot. So the 4x4 drivers use three snowmobiles and drove everybody to the Nevis incredible area. Unfortunately, the wind was around 2 knots all the day long… Just enough to make the 2008 Ozone kites flying in the sky for a couple of photos. Never mind, the day was a great moment.
The day after, Dom, Chasta and me went to Cardrona, a famous freestyle ski resort. But up there, with a very nice powder and blue sky, the wind came not from the right direction. Chasta managed to fly over the road and landed on a little snow field between a U-turn. Awsome fly to be seen in the next Ozone DVD.
And finally, the best session was in www.Snowfarmnz.com and www.snowparknz.com with Hugh Pinfold (Ozone chicken-loop designer) and Chris Gebbie (Ozone NZ distributor). It was with a 12 to 20 knots icy wind for a 5 hours session, bringing the kiters more than 10 km further along backcountry valleys and domes covered with 20 cm of fresh powder snow.
Lot of actions, photos, videos, downhill, uphill, crossing, and the kiters stopped only when the sun disappeared behind the mountains in a red sky and let the night arriving. This unforgettable day ended in a Indian restaurant in Wanaka with Richard Prout (heli-skiing organizer) who managed to entertain the over-tired snowkiters.
Now, the Wanakite event starts under a grey sky in Snowfarm for three days and around 25/30 Kiwis-snowkiters are expected.
Let’s see the report in the further news.
