Rob Whittall, co-founder of Ozone Paragliders and chief designer of Ozone Kites and Speed-Wings, recently starred in this short film about the beautiful PPG flying in New Zealand.

The footage is inspiring on many levels - the natural vistas of the NZ coast, the tranquil glides over green landscapes, and the convenience of taking off and landing from home without being at the mercy of thermals

Fly alongside Rob as he soars above New Zealand’s West Coast with his Paramotor, in search of a little soul satisfaction. White Cloud Productions NZ joined forces with Rob to capture stunning images of Raglan and the surrounding area…presenting Surreal Perspectives.

This years kitebuggy race season started during the easter holidays in st. peter ording. As the weather turned out to be just perfect with sunshine and wind for kites from 5.5 to 12 squaremeters we were able to drive five races.

For the first three races my weapon of choice was the Yakuza GT 5 and 6.8. One first and two second places showed that we have still one of the top racekites available.

The last two races I tried some new prototypes we are actually working on. Just for now all I can say is that already this first prototype in 12sqm was fast enough to help me up ending on a second place again. For the last race it looked like the wind will get up so I decided to test a new proto in 9.5sqm, unfortunately the wind doesn’t change and I had not enough power. That’s why I decided to test some different trim options during the race and were only able to become 12th. Never the less I could wipe out that last race and was able to win the first tourstop in 2012.

SPKA Round 6: 31st March - 1st April 2012

After the non-event of Round 5 due to the weather, the Scottish buggy racing crew were keen to get plenty of races in at Round 6. The added bonus of Stu McGougan (the current series leader) not attending the 1st day of Round 6 gave an extra incentive (no offence meant Stu!); the more races done on the 1st day, the more points Stu would get, so the further he might drop down the leader board.

Saturday dawned dry, but with light wind from variable directions. Luckily there was time to wait with low tide at 1pm, and eventually racing started in a gusty cross-on breeze. The unpredictability of the wind caused a few problems, including kites coming down across the start line, and a few OBEs (out of buggy experiences….) with Mike winning the big air competition for the day, luckily coming down unhurt. This also threw the competition wide open; giving riders on lower aspect kites some advantages over the less stable race kites. The Ozone Methods and Flows used by Mark, Dave and Todders in the 16” wheel class handled the conditions well, even keeping some performance once wet. The biggest surprises of the day were in the controversial 3rd race, during which the wind changed direction by 90o at one end of the course, and at times stopped completely. Mark did really well for his first go with a Yak, after changing up from the 5m Method to a 5m Yak he completed a further 2 laps and moved up from 8th to 3rd place. Maggie also had a good race, managing to stay out of trouble and keeping the 6m Yak just dry enough to win the race, beating the entire Scottish men’s fleet in the process.

On the Sunday morning the racers were back on the beach early, waiting for the tide to drop and drying out kites. The wind stayed gusty, cross-off shore this time, and the day started with a practice race for newcomers to the fleet. Again the turbulent wind made for tricky, unpredictable racing throughout the day. Luckily there were enough rivers and puddles on the beach to slow most pilots down and 2 more series races were completed, making Round 6 the best weekend of racing in the Scottish series so far this season. A big shout out and get well soon to our Captain Tom Arlott who broke 3 ribs after being lofted out of his buggy and hitting the ground before his kite. Everyone went home tired but happy; roll on Round 7 at St Andrews 28th-29th April.

Hi guys, Jack here reporting from the New Zealand paradise and Ozone HQ, Raglan.

I was recently lucky enough to fly Ozone’s land based power kite, the OCTANE!

I was immediately surprised at how stable and easy flying the OCTANE was, I had great fun jibing up and down the peaceful Raglan beach just enjoying the beautiful and breath taking scenery.

Even in light winds the OCTANE preformed well keeping constant power through the bar all the time making it easy to cruise, allowing the rider to enjoy the ride and not having to worry too much about keeping the kite in the sky.

If you’re looking for a kite to learn either landboarding or buggying, or want to have a kite in your quiver to enjoy cruising without being ripped off your board or out your buggy then this is the kite for you!

The OCTANE was a great kite for doing speed runs in the buggy and whipping into big drifts, as the constant power pulls you straight out of your turn effortlessly giving you a great buzz and keeps you coming back for more.

I loved the simplicity of this kite and know that the OCTANE is going to give many new riders that push they need to progress and improve their riding in no time.

If you get a chance to demo this kite go for it, you wont regret it…

Kitelandboarding during 2011 was one of my best years so far. During the year I had the chance to film a kite advert for Blackberry in Chile (South America) for a week, it was more of a holiday than work as what’s better than being paid for what you love to do.

I also filmed some kiting for the BBC and Sky 3D during the year which was a great as it was a new experience to film kiting in 3D.

I got to travel to a lot of places and meet a lot of people who also love the sport. Being backed by Ozone is amazing, with kites that are pushing technology and performance means I can continue pushing the sport with new tricks and have the confidence to go bigger and further.

Ciao a tutti!

L’altro giorno scavando in cantina, sotto tavole e prototipi di kite, abbiamo trovato “3rd Dimension”
Lo cercavamo da anni e ne Indiana Jones o Lara Croft lo potevano trovare ma la nostra incessante ricerca lo ha riportato a voi oggi.
Sarà anche un pò datato ma sicuramente ci sono ancora alcune delle immagini da sogno e di esplorazioni più belle che vedrete mai sullo snowkite.

Una visione sul futuro… Ash Garwood ci racconta l’anno trascorso con noi e cosa vorrà fare per il 2012.

Con la conclusione del 2011 e l’arrivo della stagione 2012 sto ripensando ai bei tempi che ho trascorso in questo anno.

Questo anno sono stato molto impegnato in generale allenandomi e spingendo il Land Kite il più possibile. Abbiamo chiuso molti trick quest’anno che prima di ora si pensavano impossibili per un land boarder.

Io stesso ho fatto molto kite in acqua in migliorando molto il livello con l’idea di portare tutte le nuove evoluzioni poi sulla terra visto che è così che vedo il land kite per il futuro, un misto di numeri della old school agganciati mischiati con nuovi trick new school.

Grazie al kite surf c’è un’enciclopedia intera di trick da trasportare dall’acqua alla terra. Già abbiamo chiuso dei; slim chances, railey to blind, kiteloop handle pass, back mobes e front mobes. Io voglio portare questo sulla scena per dimostrare che si può fare ed è anche bello da vedere.

Nel 2012 con l’aiuto del nuovo Ozone C4 farò salire ancora di più il livello oltre ai limiti sin’ora conosciuti. Voglio che un giorno ci sia un circuito mondiale su terra e se ci crediamo lo possiamo fare.
