The finale of the X-Zone National Freestyle series took place on the weekend of the 7/8 may at West Wittering beach, near Chichester, England. Saturday morning dawned with no wind, and with an outlook of showers, things weren`t looking too promising. However, sprits were high with the usual mingling between riders, catching up, giving it large about their latest tricks, and praying for the wind to kick in. While waiting Long Boards were the choice toys to play with, the guys and gals making good use of the smooth tarmac road to keep the fun going!!!! Long board jousting, what a fun spectator sport!
The wind did pick up enough to get kites out, and there was a lot of interest in the Instincts Chris Hill had with him. Feedback was good from the riders who had a play..
With most people milling around the judging tent - making the most of the top b-b-q, Mark Hoyland was cooking up - the decision was made to call it day as the wind just wasn`t coming out to play. Regrouping later in the pub for a few beers!
I arrived at West Wits on Sunday to sunshine, some wind and a lot of kites in the air - the comp was on.
The wind was still too light to go big, which made the riders focus on their ground skills, and small airs with tweaks, It was a fantastic sight to see everybody trying their best to squeeze every bit out of the kites, with back loops, front loops, grabs and handle passes being the order of the day to impress the judges. The buggiers were up to their usual mad antics, with things getting very vocal as Phatdan and Kelly decided to shout their way through their heats.
The comp came to a close, the results were announced, and the champagne squirted everywhere.
Big thanks must go the X- Zone crew and the riders who supported them

Keep smiling and have fun.
