Atmosphere 2009
This was always going to be a great event, building on what went on last year, we knew this one was going to be very special.
Arriving on Thursday evening we were surprised just how many others had made the effort to get there early. After a quick a look around the holiday park we set up a small sound rig and supplied the camp with some nice laid back tunes to watch the sunset over a beer whilst catching up with friends old and new.
Friday we woke to sunshine and light winds, the view across the bay from the holiday park to the beach location we could see a fair amount of kites already airborne, we headed for the beach.
It was great to see many different kite company riders all unpacking kit from vans and campers and hitting the sand, myself and Lx wasted no time and headed on out. Although offshore the winds were relatively smooth, order of the day, BIG kites, I grabbed my trusty 12mtr Manta 09 a kite I’ve really grown to love this season, loads of power on tap and even more when wound up. Its been a while since I’ve ridden with a lot of my old pals and to get out there in such a relaxed mood and pop some airs alongside them all was great, we left the beach on a high. Back to camp, beer time.
Saturday, forecast was not looking good and as we hit the beach the heavens opened and with it winds gusting from 10-50mph. Now was a good time to run for the vans, share coffee and catch up with Iain from Kite frenzy who had travelled across from Spain to see how the UK does things. By 1pm the weather was still squalling and we made the decision to head back to the holiday park to set up Saturday nights party we were throwing.
5hrs later the sound system, lasers, lighting rig and visual screens were in place along with the stage area dressed in backdrops and Instincts creating a canopy above us. Hog roasts were being served outside the marquee and people socialised to some low tempo beats as the sun went down. As darkness fell the tempo and volume were raised, people took to the dance floor, fireworks fired high into the sky and as we wound up the music in the early hours, the crowed cheered for more, and more, and more. We eventually escaped the venue after playing a fair few “last tunes”. What a night!!!!
Sunday people took a while to surface and with very light winds on the beach people took the time to walk around and check out products on show, we had a long journey back “up north” so around lunchtime we said our goodbyes, and with vans fully packed, we hit the road.
Without doubt this was one of the best events EVER. Alistair and his team should be extremely proud of what they achieved. We’ll be back!!
