New Spots to Enjoy in France

Super Devoluy NE-N-NW

This is a small ski station with big kite potential; it is situated about 30 minutes from the town of Gap in the southern French Alps.

This area is well suited to many wind directions but is likely to be at its best with winds from NW to NE.

With winds from the North the area for kiting is very large with possibilities of accessing some great steep free ride faces and couloirs.

It is also possible to kite from the top of the ski station if the wind is too light in the valley. The terrain is very varied, there is some really steep stuff, large flat areas a few little cols and one place that is a kite heaven with lots of little pine tree to air over.

Chasta, Rob and Pascal were there last weekend and it sounded like they had a great time but they did say to get to the good spot it took half an hour of walking. The snow was good but the wind was very light but they still managed to explore the area by kite.

All three of them are excited to get back there soon so that they can take advantage of this new paradise!

Le Chazelet (La Grave) NE-NW

Le Chazelet is a little village up behind La Grave, they have two or three ski lifts but one of them offers access to the plateau of Emparis. The little ski station is friendly to kiters and a ride up to the plateau on the drag lift costs only 3 euros.

Emparis is an enormous plateau that stretches for kilometres and is often covered with beautiful powder. The local kiters have been using the plateau and have come back with amazing stories and video of deep powder and smooth winds.

As this kite area is far from a road it would be advisable to take all you gear in case of emergencies (telephone, peeps, shovel and first aide kit).

Pioneer Pascal Joubert lives in La Grave and has been one of locals tearing up the plateau when ever possible. Look out for Pascal at the spot, he will be happy to help if you need, he`s a friendly guy.

I am sure you will be seeing some amazing photos and film come from the Plateau because Bertrand Boon the amazing photographer has been with the boys on the good days!!!!!
