Viagem a Fuerteventura e Lanzarote Outubro 2007

This news piece has not yet been translated but will be soon, thank you for your patience.

We started our trip in Fuerteventura, with some really good wind forecast. For the occasion I bought some new photographic material like an aquatic case for my professional camera.

We arrived on Flag beach (white beautiful sands) on Friday 19 and we’ve been directly riding with a “side on” wind. Perfect to test the new 9 and 11m Edge Ozone. I’ve been happy to discover that my first bad impression in Tenerife was completely wrong; we really love theses 2 kites. We booked the Sunday for the photo session because the wind was supposed to be good. But on Sunday the wind just stopped!!! Grrrrrrr…

I’ve been a little bit disappointed, with the idea to come back without pictures, after 2 days with theses so perfect conditions and the good forecast. That was not possible!

So the Sunday, we did some pictures on the beach running fast to fly the kite but it was just a really frustrated situation in a so photogenic place! On Monday we’ve been waiting the all day, but the wind was still missing! On Tuesday we’ve done the check out and carried bags in the car and… Surprise!!! The wind was back! We’ve been running to the beach, with the aquatic camera, the kites, the board bags and first photo session in the water with a perfect sunny day!

After the first couples of shoots, I realised that it’s better to have a lifejacket to make this kind shooting! I drank a lot of water this afternoon… But the most important was to get some good shots, and I thing we did it! The wind was on shore and most of people didn’t go in the water, because of the low tide, the entrance is quite difficult with lot of rocks every where. The wind was not very strong, but just enough for Diane with my board and the 11m Ozone Edge. She did it perfect, jumping above me. For me it was just enough for riding, but not for flying.

After that the wind disappeared, so we took the decision to go to the south to realised a scuba diving in the place called “el faro de Jandia” It’s a really good place and I made some nice shots also. The day after the wind was still unstable, nothing until the last minute! At the sunset, we made a short kite session until the night, with the full moon at the horizon. Only Diane and me together, it was a magic moment!

Then the weather has changed, it was very cloudy. We think the reason of that was the full moon. The wind was very strange. We didn’t make any photos because the light was ugly, but we enjoyed kiting on small waves.

Two days after, we’ve moved to an other volcanic Island: Lanzarote. We’ve been really lucky with the winds conditions there, because it’s really difficult for him to enter in the big beach of Famara, he needs a really special direction, but when he’s there, it’s a paradise because of the waves. It’s a really famous place for surfing and some days it can be Massive!

The first day, the people told us, it was better not going riding, the wind was too gusty. But the beach looks so magic, that we didn’t resist. The waves were quite big for us, at the end we stay playing with them for 3h and the day after with smaller waves something like 5h. It was a really nice sensation of being free. After that we’ve been so happy it was like touching the Even!

New Ozone team riders Profile:

Diane Herman is a Swiss girl who lives in Tenerife since 7 years now. She starts practising kiteboarding at the beginning of the Sport. And she really loves it! In Tenerife she’s already participate for fun at the Spanish national contest and at the SuperX. At the end she finished the competition with the first place.

Jacques Mezger is a Swiss professional photographer who lives and rides always with her. Both have learned and follow practising in the really windy place of Tenerife : “El Medano”.

With this experience in the pocket, now they focus their passion on the trips, visiting some nice place around the world and trying making some good photo shooting. They practise also the Snow kiting and a lot of other sport (rock-climbing, snowboarding, skiing, Canyoning, rollers, scuba-diving, etc…).

Test Ozone Edge 9m, 11m

We’ve been riding 1 week in Fuerteventura and some days in Lanzarote all the time with these 2 kites. First of all the wind was very good for us (really different from Tenerife) but  it was changing all the time, 1 hour strong, 1 hour light, etc… But most of time, when it was present it was quite regular. Theses 2 kites have a really big range of use, most of time when the people was going out from the water because the wind was too light, I was starting just moving a little bit the kite.I’ve seen some people with 16m and it was impossible for them to stay riding but for us no problems…

One really intelligent new thing from Ozone is to give us a possibility to change the length of the back lines directly from the bar. This is really good, because when the wind starts to be really too light for riding, you can change that directly in the water and follow riding. We like theses kites for them reactivity, because they always respond quickly when we need it. Other really good thing is the massive lift you get with theses kites, you can easily go high and higher. In the air they are very stable; they give us time to make ours entire favourite tricks we ever dream…

When we were in Lanzarote (Famara), we have testing for the first time some big waves. We did some very good waves sessions with a horrible wind (big gusts), but it was not a problem with the Ozone Edges kites, they absorb the gust really better than the other kites we have ever tested before. We’ve got a lot of fun!
