Instinct Range 2007 >> Light, Sport & Edge

The original Instinct released in April 2006 was a huge success for Ozone and we felt was a classic Ozone design, combing performance with simplicity in an original concept that was something new to the industry at the time we released it.

The Instinct was the 1st 5-line flat-kite design in the world where the 5th line was integral to the kites support/structure and the Instinct was the 1st flat kite that did not have a single pulley in the kite or the bar.

We strived from the beginning to create a steering and bridle system that provided direct handling. Pulleys do not mix well in a sandy/saltwater environment and adversely affect that direct feeling, so from the start we searched for a better solution to the pulleys commonly found on so many kites, and we found a better way. We learned that with a fifth line used as a central bridle, we were able to extract the most performance out of the ‘Flat-kite’ design.

The Instinct’s bridle design offers the optimum support to the leading edge. Our unique line arrangement supports the leading edge from the center with a mini bridle that fans out across the span of the leading edge.

Connected immediately to the fifth line, you as the rider now have direct control over the entire leading edge of the kite. Not only can you fine tune the speed and trim the kite precisely, this system also prevents the kite from front tucking or inverting. (A problem common to many flat kites with only four lines).

For the 2007 Instinct range we have a new plan-form and spread the central bridal across an even wider portion of the leading edge, supporting a broader area and resulting in an even smoother ride with more control of the wing shape.

The original Instinct was an amazing kite that offered a high level of performance for riders of all abilities. This year the Instinct has grown into a family of kites, each maintaining that Instinct feel & design philosophy, yet each unique and designed for specific styles for our varied customers needs.
