Hi all,

Hope the early summer has been a good one wind-wise. Thanks to everyone who has given us feedback on using the Instinct, it is all good stuff and helps me for future designs.

One comment we have received a lot is about the quality of the manufacture of the kite. This is down to our dedicated team here in Vietnam who have done a fantastic job. We basically took our experience of the high accuracy needed to make paragliders and applied this to the Instinct. This started with the selection of the materials to use, through to the accuracy of matching seem widths, to the production of the suspension lines and control lines. Even the bar uses techniques learnt from paragliders.

Starting at the beginning with material selection, we chose to use Teijin for the sail cloth and Dimension Polyant for the Dacron parts, with lines from Edelrid. Teijin was an easy choice - it is the best waterproof cloth on the market for kitesurf purposes. It`s as simple as that. Dimension Polyant also have a strong reputation - they to understand the importance of quality and consistency of production. We have been using Edelrid on our snow kites, traction kites and paragliders for many years and have helped them to develop their current range of Dyneema based lines.

But there are other less obvious material choices that are just as, if not even more important. Thread for example - all threads are not the same, by a long way. Again, from experience we understand the importance of using the correct type, so we chose to use a bonded thread which basically means it is more resistant to stretching, more water resistant and well, just better and longer lasting!

What makes our production special, in my opinion is the systems we use and the people who work here. We have built a very stable, skilled and flexible team who are able to take these skills and apply them to all our products. They have a pride in their work that you can see and feel in the finished kites.

As with all our kites and gliders, there are several inspections of the work, starting with self inspection by the person who sewed the parts, through to the bladders before and after putting in the kites, all the way to the final inspection and measuring of the lines on the kite. At each stage the work is checked for problems.

It takes a lot of dedication to make quality kites, we hope you can see this dedication in the Instinct kite.

Hoping for a great summer,

David and the Ozone Production Team in Vietnam.
