Hi Everyone

We have just returned from Sal, Cabo Verde and were lucky to have dream conditions during our stay on that crazy island.
It must be one of the most diverse riding spots to head to with everything from full on world class wave-riding to perfect flat water freestyle. It also has spots suited for all levels including Kitebeach where you can find cross shore/on-shore waves with a safe long beach better suited for intermediate riders.
World famous Punta Pret was firing on all cylinders with some epic 3-5m clean down the line waveriding making some of us delirious with nerves/excitement ;-)

We also rode at La Brume, the dead Volcano on the North West of the Island, check out the crazy pics of the guys riding the salt collection areas. They deserved a medal for riding that spot. Imagine the high rim that completely surrounded the Volcano, the wind was gusting between 0 - 25 knots and the guys and kites took it in their stride…very impressive. Lex was on the Instinct Light 9m and Sigve on the 9m Sport and had a great session before the park guards eventually asked us to leave the tourists alone to float on the salty water in peace! The bathers were cheering the boyz on and asked the guards to leave us be but hey….rules are rules I guess! So we packed up after our crazy little session which was probably a worlds 1st at that spot!

From there we moved onto the spot with the shipwreck (see photos). We’d been told by the locals that this area has the greatest concentration of TIGER sharks in the island. They come in at high tide and hang out apparently, Sigve being the star he is decided we had to kite this spot even with the Tigers!!! There was no beach nearby so had to wade out over the razor sharp rocks to get out far enough to launch, not easy in flip flops! Great pics with Sigve kite looping in front of the wreck and attempting to jump over it. He was underpowered for jumping over the wreck but that was probably a good thing considering how dangerous getting out through the rocks was!

Christian Nerdrum was there to capture the magic that Sigve Botnen and Lex Dekker put on for his lens as can be seen in this small selection of pictures. Christian has the best ones and will be saving those for the magazines so make sure you look for the Cabo story in your fave mag coming out soon! Lex and Sigve were on fire and reckon Sal has to be one of the best places to train thanks to its diverse riding on offer no matter what your level.
Lex is finishing school and is super excited for this year as he is joining the PKRA Tour and will for sure be a big hit. Lex already entered a few stops and impressed everyone with his friendly, approachable attitude and smooth riding style….. Keep an eye out for Lex!!!

Sal is generally gusty but with the modern style kites you don’t even feel it. The Instinct 07 range was perfect with the Sport as most riders favourite choice but Some of the main surprises for some of the locals that tested our kites was just how great the Instinct Light is for waves and wakestyle. The 5m, 7m and 9m Light has to be tried to be believed, in waves its too easy to ride, just park the kite and enjoy, its so light in weight that it just keeps floating, even when you take tension off the lines, it floats away and maintains its position allowing you the rider to concentrate on the wave.

We had some of the best riding of our lives and we’d recommend a trip there…you won’t be disappointed! We stayed at the Cristal, a Hotel/apartment run by Gabriel and his super cool family, bed & breakfast style on the beach in Santa Maria. Contact them: gabs@cvtelecom.cv  or tel: + 23 242 18 51

More images will be added to the website and a report from the guys on their trip so check back for more info next week

Cheers
Matt & The Team
