Epic Waves and Adventures from West Oz - Nathan & Shannon Ducker
Ozone Reos have fast become the most popular wave kite along Perth beaches. It really is a testament to quality materials, design and performance. Everyone that demo’s a Reo tends to agree they are unbeatable on a wave. Every owner I have met has struggled to find any suggestions to improve them.
Our latest trip was filled with eye opening adventures. A shark attack three weeks prior had everyone on edge, but it was a couple of other incidents that really had us on our toes.
The whales were following their migratory patterns in huge numbers. It seemed most runs out to see we’re cut short as we came across massive humpbacks cruising through, slapping their tails or breaching fair out of the water. A windsurfer described a run-in he had where he ended up virtually standing on the firm, slippery back of a moving whale for a few seconds after an accidental collision that left him struggling back to shore with a cracked board and broken boom.
Another incident involved a kiter and an angry windsurfer in a drug induced psychosis. Let’s just say it’s good to have 95kg mates with black belt martial arts abilities as insurance…
The rest of the trip included some great SUP sessions, Spanish Mackerel dinners and plenty of time to catch up with good mates.
On returning to Perth, Shan took out the women’s division of the WA State Waveriding Championships on Ozone Reos.
The seabreezes are in again for us and downwind waveriding sessions with mates has been the flavour of the month. Best wishes to all for a fun season!!!
